Mathematics Classes Overview
The math department blends skills with constructivist, project-based practices. Classes are designed by our experienced team of teachers who use a variety of curricula aligned to the Common Core Content and Mathematical Practices Standards. Teachers do not use one specific textbook or curriculum, but instead draw from a variety of programs like Maneuvering the Middle, Connecting Mathematics Program, and Engage NY. Teachers could potentially use supplemental resources such as Math’s Mates, MobyMax, and Khan Academy for skill practice and homework. Our students will develop important mathematical concepts, skills, procedures, and ways of thinking in the following areas: number sense, geometry, measurement, algebra, probability, statistics, and much more. The curriculum teaches students to reason and communicate proficiently in mathematics through a unit-based inquiry approach.
